As the Irish Refugee Council, we wrote to the Department of Justice to raise concerns about the new procedures that were introduced at the International Protection Office (IPO) and the consequences of the European Communities (International Protection Procedures) Regulations 2022 and the International Protection Act 2015 (Procedures and Periods for Appeals) (Amendment) Regulations 2022 

We emphasised that the changes are retrogressive in nature, that they are responding to the crisis in accommodation, with potential disregard for the rights of international protection applicants.
