Help Young People Put Down Roots in Ireland
Putting Down Roots is a powerful environmental arts initiative led by the Museum of Everyone and visual artist Steven Doody, with support from Amanda Nyoni, in collaboration with Easy Treesie and the Irish Refugee Council.
Part of the In the Open / Faoin Spéir programme — and supported by Birr Festivals Collective, Lough Boora, Tullamore Arts Centre, Offaly County Council, and the Arts Council — this project brings art, nature, and community together in a meaningful way.
8,000 Trees for 8,000 Journeys
We are planting 8,000 native trees across Offaly — one for each person currently seeking asylum or living in Direct Provision in Ireland.
Every €5 donation plants a tree, helping us reach our goal of over €40,000 to fund third-level education opportunities for young people who have lived in the Direct Provision system.
Special thanks to Tullamore Credit Union for kickstarting the project with 100 trees!
Why It Matters
This is more than planting trees. It’s:
- Nurturing biodiversity and fighting climate change (with our partners Easy Treesie)
- Building connections between local communities and people seeking protection
- Giving vulnerable young people the chance to build their futures — and put down roots in Ireland

Be Part of It
By donating or fundraising, you’re not just planting a tree — you’re planting hope.
The project launched at Scoil Mhuire, Tullamore, on 18 November 2021, where we planted the first trees.
