    How you can help

The Irish Refugee Council (IRC) has been receiving calls, emails and messages on social media from people asking how to help in this current humanitarian crisis and show solidarity with refugees seeking protection.

We welcome such support and suggest people take a look at the options below and support actions here and in other EU countries as best you can.  Some of these are organised by other organisations, nevertheless, the IRC would encourage you to do what suits you best to reach out the people who need your help now.

Provide humanitarian support to refugees in Budapest

The IRC is liaising through the Hungarian Helsinki Committee to raise much needed funds to provide humanitarian supplies to address the needs of refugees in Budapest, Hungary. This will be by means of funds taken to Budapest before the end of September which will be spent on necessary humanitarian supplies in coordination with volunteer groups on the ground. Financial donations enable us to respond rapidly to address where the needs are greatest.  The situation is changing rapidly on the ground but it is a vital crossing point in to the EU after long and sometimes treacherous journeys.

To donate please click the donate icon to the right of the screen.  We will make sure that every Euro is spent on exactly what is needed to improve the conditions of refugees in Budapest.

    The current situation in Budapest

Thousands of refugees including children are currently sleeping rough outside the main train station, Keleti station in Budapest, Hungary. Although some have been able to board trains to Germany and Austria and other countries many more are still stranded in Budapest and local volunteer groups are struggling to provide the necessary supplies.
