What’s the alternative to Direct Provision??

Posted On: 9 October 2013

The Irish Refugee Council is calling for an end to Direct Provision but we are not calling for an end to state support for people who claim asylum. What the IRC is advocating is an initial reception system which is supportive and, ideally, for a decision to be made on an application within the first six months. Where that cannot happen, we are advocating that asylum seekers should have the right to work and be moved in to independent accommodation after six months.

Watch out for the launch of our proposal for asylum support next month.
