Internship with IRC’s Information and Referral Service

The IRC’s Information and Referral Service operates a shared drop-in centre (with Migrant Rights Centre Ireland) and also an outreach service to locations around the country where asylum seekers live.  There is an opportunity for two interns to work full-time for six months from July – December 2016 with the Information and Referral Service.

The role

No previous experience is required but you must have a commitment to human rights and to work with and for people who have been excluded from Irish society, some of whom will have experienced severe trauma before they arrive in Ireland and/or others who have been damaged as a result of their experiences in Ireland.  You must therefore be committed to working directly with people and able to convey complex information and provide support to people in difficult situations. Full training will be given together with the opportunity to participate in other training and learning opportunities both within and outside of the IRC.  Support and supervision is provided throughout the internship by a member of staff.

  • Flexibility and the ability to work under pressure

  • Proficient with MS Office
  • Knowledge of the Irish asylum and immigration law an advantage

Hours of work

10am to 4pm Monday to Friday with a one hour lunch break. The Drop-In Centre is open to the public three days a week.


Six months from July 2015


Travel and lunch expenses will be covered.
