The Irish Refugee Council (IRC) welcomes the Irish Government’s announcement this morning to increase the number of people to be resettled and relocated in Ireland. This news is reflective of the spirit of generosity that the Irish public have demonstrated and their willingness to be an active part of proposed solutions and responses.

Sue Conlan, CEO of the Irish refugee Council said, “The IRC has been overwhelmed with offers of practical support for refugees from members of the public. The creativity, collective approaches and community initiatives that have sprung up are indicative of true Irish spirit.”

“We need to keep this momentum going and ensure that all people in Ireland in need of protection are afforded the same support and integration measures. This means that we must not lose sight of the men, women and children already here in the asylum system and in existing Direct Provision centres. We need to learn from past mistakes and rectify those that been made.”
